Beaverton, Oregon is named for its early Native American and pioneer population interactions. Beaver Dam was then changed to Beaverton, which is easily accessible to highways 10, 26, 208 and 217. It is located in the metro Portland, Oregon vicinity and is a sparse seven miles West from Portland, which has a huge population close to 2.1 million! Beaverton is the fifth biggest Oregon city. Residents enjoy an outstanding school system, a low crime rate, lower than any other city in the state, plenty of excellent scenery, two hundred parks with many opportunities for hiking, walking, boating, swimming, tennis, camping, fishing, biking, softball and plenty of golf courses. There are three family recreation centers, a sporting arena, a regionally spanned nature park, eight swimming pools, two historic landmarks, a senior citizens center and 2 lakes. Competitive sporting leagues and classes of special-interest. Beaverton also has a huge Farmers Market that has been noted and written about in Sunset & Country Gardens magazines. Visitors can look forward to an excellent public transportation system that provides access to rails and busses. The closest International Airport is in Portland and it is only an hour away.
